3 Steps to Get Started
Download VM64 from the App Store
Open the App Store on your Mac, search for and install VM64.
Create a new virtual machine
Open VM64, create a new virtual machine, and select the system you want to install.
Install client system
Select the system's installation image, and then start the virtual machine. Follow the on-screen prompts to install the system, and you can use it after the installation is complete.
System requirements
Before downloading, please make sure your Mac meets the following requirements.
- Run VM64
- macOS 12 or higher. Both Apple chips and Intel Macs will work.
- macOS Virtual Machine
- Apple silicon, macOS 12 or later. Intel Macs cannot run macOS virtual machines.
- Use Rosetta to run x86_64 programs in a Linux virtual machine
- Apple silicon, macOS 13 or later. Linux virtual machines require an Apple backend.
- Other functions
- Includes DirectX graphics, sharing of macOS virtual machines, and automatic resolution adjustment. These features require macOS 13, 14, or 15 and later, depending on the type.
Apple Chips and Intel Macs
Both Macs can run VM64. While the architecture of the virtual machine is the same as that of the Mac, VM64 uses virtualization to run at nearly native speeds.
Apple-powered Macs
On Apple-silicon Macs, ARM64 systems run using virtualization. The running speed is close to native. Systems with x86 and other architectures use QEMU emulation, which is slower. Macs using Apple silicon and running macOS 12 or later can install macOS virtual machines.
Intel Mac
On Intel Macs, x86_64 systems run using virtualization. The running speed is close to native. Systems with ARM64 and other architectures use QEMU emulation, which is slower. Intel Macs cannot run macOS virtual machines.
