Run Windows, Linux, and macOS on Mac

VM64 is a Mac virtual machine application. It can run Windows, Linux and macOS virtual machines, and can also emulate other CPU architectures.

Requires macOS 12 or higher. Both Apple chips and Intel Macs will work.

What VM64 can do

  • Runs at near-native speeds

VM64 runs using virtualization when the virtual machine and Mac have the same CPU architecture. Apple chips run ARM64 systems, and Intel Macs run x86_64 systems.

  • Simulate other CPU architectures

QEMU can emulate more than 30 CPUs, including x86, ARM32, MIPS, PowerPC, and RISC-V. Emulating x86 systems on Apple silicon is slower than virtualization.

  • Create a new Windows virtual machine

The New Wizard will download and install the driver and client tools. VM64 automatically turns on Secure Boot and TPM, so Windows 11 can be installed.

Systems that can be installed

Installing Windows requires bringing your own license. Installing macOS requires an Apple chip Mac.

  • Windows 11
  • Ubuntu
  • Debian
  • Fedora
  • macOS
  • Mac OS 9
  • Windows 98

Share, snapshot and automate

Share clipboards and folders

Copy and paste text between your Mac and virtual machine, and share folders on your Mac to your virtual machine. Sharing the clipboard requires client tools to be installed first. There are system version requirements when using the sharing function of a macOS virtual machine. For details, see the function page.

Snapshot and one-shot mode

A QEMU virtual machine can save a snapshot and then restore it to its saved state at any time. QEMU virtual machines can also use throwaway mode, discarding all changes after shutdown.

Control virtual machines with scripts

Start, stop, and clone virtual machines with shortcuts, AppleScript, or command-line tools. After installing the client tools, you can also execute commands in the QEMU virtual machine.
